Ear Health Check

At Swindon Ear Clinic, we provide professional ear health checks carried out in the comfort of your home. This service is designed to assess the condition of your ears, identify any wax build-up, and check overall ear canal and eardrum health using specialist equipment. An ear health check is an important preventative service, especially for patients who experience recurring ear issues, hearing changes, or simply want reassurance about their ear health. All assessments are carried out using professional-grade equipment and in line with strict hygiene standards.

What Is an Ear Health Check?

An ear health check is a detailed examination of both ears using a video otoscope and handheld diagnostic tools. This allows a clear, magnified view of the ear canal and eardrum.

The purpose of the assessment is to:

  • Identify any ear wax build-up
  • Check for signs of infection or inflammation
  • Assess the condition of the ear canal
  • Examine the eardrum health
  • Provide a baseline record of ear health

Digital images may be captured during the examination to allow for accurate comparison over time.

What Happens During the Appointment?

During your appointment, both ears will be carefully examined using a video otoscope. This provides a live visual image of the ear canal and eardrum, allowing for a detailed and accurate assessment.

If ear wax is found, you may be offered immediate treatment using microsuction or irrigation, depending on clinical suitability.

If no wax is present, a full ear health assessment will still be carried out and findings will be explained clearly to you.

You will also receive advice on ear care and prevention of future wax build-up where appropriate.

Who Is This Service For?

This service is suitable for individuals who:

  • Experience recurring ear discomfort or blocked sensation
  • Want reassurance about their ear health
  • Have a history of ear wax build-up
  • Wear hearing aids
  • Experience changes in hearing
  • Require routine ear monitoring

If No Ear Wax Is Found

If no wax is present, the appointment is treated as a full ear health consultation. This includes a detailed examination of the ear canal and eardrum.

In this case, the consultation fee of £30 applies. You will still receive professional advice, reassurance, and recommendations if needed.

If any signs of infection or inflammation are identified, appropriate advice will be given, which may include referral to a GP or pharmacist.
